This timetable checking system is based on the current 2010 timetable. Scroll down to find the active part!
Note that the exact days on which practical classes are held can only be determined after students have registered and the numbers in each class are known. The practical times given by this system - especially for for first year classes - are meant as a guide only, and may have to be changed during the first week of term.
Shortly after the beginning of term we shall create a website on which every student will be able to find their complete timetable, including practicals and tutorials, as allocated by a system which optimises classes sizes and minimizes clashes. Please watch this space for details, and then attend classes in the slots assigned to you!
The general system you can see below displays a possible lecture timetable for each semester, taking into account that there may be alternative periods to choose from for some subjects. After making your subject selection, scroll down to see the timetables for each semester.
Note that some language subjects do not have pre-allocated timetable slots.
There is also a button that will show a printer friendly version of the timetables for each semester - this can be printed more cheaply than printing the other display.
If students wish to follow degree curricula in which subjects clash, they will invariably have to take an extra year to complete their degrees.
Some major combinations that may look attractive but which are not possible are ELN 3/HIS 3, PSY 3/POL 3, ENG 3/SOC 3, ENG 3/INS 3, CSC 3/LAW 3, HKE 3/HIS 3, PHI 3/ANT 3, ENT 3/BCH 3, ICH 3/MIC 3, ENV 3/CHE 3

This is a web based tool for exploring timetable combinations.
To see a subject's timetable, type that subject's mnemonic into one of the
10 text boxes. Subject mnemonics all have seven characters, and are of the
general form
TLA NUM ( for example LOG 101 or ECO 3 or INF 2A )
where TLA is a Three Letter Abbreviation/Acronym like PHY for PHYsics or HIS
for HIStory, and NUM is a digit or digits denoting the level or option, like 1
or 2 or 3 or 201 or whatever. Some mnemonics (like PRFC21 - Prof Communication
1st semester) have no space, some have letters in the NUM portion.
When you have chosen all the subjects you are wanting to view, click the
"SHOW" button. This will then load a timetable showing the allocation of
periods, tutorials and/or practicals of the subjects you have chosen.
Square brackets "[ ]" are normally for practicals or tutorials. Italics show that
there are alternative slots.
Curly brackets "{ }" are for alternative lectures and tutorials - you would
normally only go to one or the other.
A (1) or (2) following a mnemonic means that the subject is only taken for the
first or second semester respectively.
You can use simplified mnemonics for subjects like PHY 1 to denote both parts
(PHY 101 and PHY 102) as the timetable slots are the same in both semesters.
For subjects with alternatives like ECO 2 use ECO 2A or ECO 2B to choose one of
the alternative slots.
To start again click on the "RESET" button, this will take you back to the
beginning page.
